Raising the Wage – The Ohio Fair Minimum Wage Amendment

Challenge: Ohioans working for minimum wage had not had a raise in over decade.

Effort: After an Ohio AFL-CIO led effort to gather signatures and educate voters, over 2 million Ohioans approved State Issue 2 on November 7, 2006.  This raised the minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.85 on 1/1/07. The wage will increase each year thereafter as the cost of living rises.

Result: Over 700,000 hard-working Ohioans will earn more money to feed their families and provide a better future for their children.
